The Best Magazine Ever

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I just got back from Barnes and Noble.
Yeah, I was checking out the magazine racks for headline ideas again.
Have you been doing that lately?
I noticed that Star Magazine was completely sold out.
There was one People left.
Instead of purchasing gossip rags, I got copies of Entrepreneur and Millionaire Blueprints.
You could tell they were both selling, but not like the celebrity gossip rags.
Why am I telling you this?
Well, should you feel guilty about growing a business that helps people and makes you rich while most everyone else can’t wait to read what Angelina, Brad and Paris are doing?
Most people have sub-conscious beliefs that money is evil and rich people are the scum of the earth.
Why?
Because they run out and read Star and People, that’s why.
Just food for thought.
Who loves ya?
Yours in prosperity,
Jim Labadie

“Hey Jim,
When I’m running my boot camp class I’m always thinking, ‘what a great use of my time’. It comes out to about $210 an hour. It’s a great way to start your morning!
I am planning on hiring another trainer, or doing two classes next month.
Thanks for your help, and the Ultimate Boot Camp Start-up Kit CD’s!”

These people act in spite of it

I haven’t showed you this in awhile.
It’s one of my favorite things. It should be one of your favorites, too.
Look at it often.
Why?
Because I know from the emails and coaching sessions with fitness pros lately that they aren’t living rule #16.
They are thinking TOO much.
Which means they aren’t acting enough.
I’ve done lots of stupid things.
You’ll do stupid things.
Do things anyway.
Print this out and read it daily. But today, focus on #16.

PS - Fellow fitness pro and former WNBA star Val Whiting is a believer. Are you?
“Even though I have not mastered the teachings of Jim’s Sales Kit and am very rusty, it works. I have messed up , bumbled, fumbled and still have gotten clients!
This system works even better with athletes and actually fits my style of thinking. As a professional athlete, I was extremely dedicated and focused. I expect no less from everyone else. I have made my mind up to train those type of people only. And if they are not with my “game plan” then, they are not a good fit for our program.
Not only has this system help increase our business, but has helped us save time.”

The summer of the average trainer
April 24, 2007 by jim · Leave a Comment
The summer of the average trainer
Summer is coming. It will be here before you know it.
And you know what that means for the average personal trainer.
Yeah, the potential for some sleepless nights due to lack of income.
Clients go on vacation and you go to the poorhouse.
It can be pretty scary, I know. I used to live in that reality.
So knowing full-well it could happen to you again this year, what have you done to prepare?
Have you seriously increased your income and the time you have to spend building your business by running boot camps?
Have you created some passive income streams through fitness information products of your own?
Or perhaps you’ve studied internet marketing and you’re making some good coin by promoting affiliate programs.
What have you done to build you list?
Maybe you’d done the smart thing and become a Prograde trainer. You’re already making moolah recommending:
- The whole foods based mulit-nutrient complex, VGF 25+
- Powerful Omega 3’s in the form of EFA Icon (which by the way kicks the you know what out of standard fish oils)
- Varsity Post-Workout drink so your clients are making the most of their efforts by getting the research recommended protein to carbs blend critical for optimal results.
Oh, and did I mention that Prograde’s auto-ship program means you don’t have to worry about inventory.
That’s right, once you educate your clients about the benefits of these high-quality nutritional products you don’t have to lift a finger.
So, what are you doing about the upcoming summer?
Are you going to be relaxing by the pool knowing your business is running on auto-pilot?
Or will you be sweating it out hoping to be able to pay your rent?
Don’t worry, I’ll love ya no matter what.
-Jim

The time is now for…
April 22, 2007 by jim · Leave a Comment
..getting some fitness publicity by piggybacking on Mother’s Day.
It’s pretty simple really. While the national magazines are always working months ahead, there’s no reason you can’t contact your local TV news stations and let them know you can provide:
- The best gifts to give to Mom to get her in shape fast
- Many daughters and sons look into buying a personal training gift certificate for their mother. Let the media know you can advise them what makes a qualified fitness professional truly qualified.
- What are healthy Mother’s Day meals their viewers can prepare?
I’m sure you get the idea.
And don’t forget, publicity isn’t about trying to land some immediate new clients.
It’s about credibility.
It’s about becoming THE fitness expert in your community.
It’s about opening doors to new opportunities that would have been otherwise closed.

PS- Are YOU a Prograde trainer yet? http://getprograde.com/
“Prograde has taken the pain out of recommending supplements to my clients. Our clients understand the importance of mastering the nutritional basics. One of the biggest barriers our clients face is having the right nutrients at the right time. Prograde has helped us increase our clients performance and has also taken the stress out of nutrient timing.
The best aspect from a business perspective is the sale and distribution of the product. It fits right into our nutritional model and we never have to lift a finger or touch a product. It’s shipped priority to our clients directly from the source. There is zero cost for us which is one of the best benefits. Getting paid for making a life changing recommendation. It’s a blessing.”

Kick Cancer in the Teeth

I’m proud to say that Alwyn Cosgrove is my friend.
I’m happy to say that he’s still alive.
The man was diagnosed with Cancer not once, but twice.
And while he will be the first to tell you neither experience was pleasant, Alwyn believes, like I do, that the opportunity to do something positive is always present.
In this case, the opportunity is to raise money for Cancer research.
So Alwyn sought out every leading fitness authority he could to contribute to a book he could sell to donate every single dime to the cause.
Well, the fitness community came through in a BIG way.
How big?
How about 800 pages worth of content BIG.
It’s all on a CD you can purchase at http://www.liftstrong.com for $24.99
All Proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Let’s review:

What I learned in the 2nd grade
April 16, 2007 by jim · Leave a Comment
What I learned in the 2nd grade
Why did I do it?
I couldn’t have just been a polite little boy, could I? Oh no, I had to be a typical 2nd grader.
So I burped in a little girl’s ear while we were waiting in line to go back to class.
It was a perfectly good ear and she was just standing there. How could I let a good burp go to waste?
How did I know the whole school would hear about my dastardly behavior?
I never thought in a million years it would become such a scandal!
My second grade teacher told the wicked teacher I had in first grade. So not only did I get berated by one teacher, I got berated by two!
And my older sister, who was in the 5th grade at the time, she even heard about it.
But you know what the absolute worst part of it all was?
Do you know what really got my goat?
The girl who was the victim of my not-so-nice belch wasn’t the one who turned me in!
No, it was another girl - a tattle-tale in the mold of the infamous Cindy Brady - that snitched on me.
So why on earth am I telling you this ridiculous story from my childhood?
1) People are ALWAYS watching
2) People are ALWAYS talking
If I got into this much trouble in the 2nd grade for burping, imagine what is happening to your business right now if you’ve got clients who aren’t getting results.
Do I need to remind you already?
1) People are ALWAYS watching
2) People are ALWAYS talking
Now you can complain all you want about it not being your fault.
But does it matter?
Your prospective clients are paying very close attention to the results of your actual clients.
Not only are they watching, they’re talking.
Tomorrow night everyone in the fitness industry is going to be talking about the release of Prograde Nutrition.
Ryan Lee and I will be unveiling the project we’ve been working on since October of 2005.
But only 1000 will be able to view the webinar which it is going to change the fitness industry forever - and over 1200 have registered so far!
They are also going to find out how they can get in on over $600 worth of F R E E bonuses.
Reserve your spot RIGHT NOW to be certain you’re one of the 1000 to witness history - and be sure to get on early.

Fight! Pro vs. Amateur

Let’s check the tale of the tape.
The fitness professional gets paid because they aren’t afraid to ask for money.
The amateur whines about having to sell not because they don’t like money, but because they really aren’t very good at what they do.
The fitness professional turns down nightmare clients who they know are going to be a headache from session one because they’re fully aware of the toxic effect they will have on their business.
The amateur takes on anything with legs because they haven’t learned better yet.
The fitness professional knows a prospect is someone who MIGHT train with them. They also know a client is someone who pays them money in exchange for their service.
The amateur lets a prospect out of a meeting without paying and never hears from them again. No commitment, no client.
The fitness professional knows sales takes guts.
The amateur hopes and prays their prospect will somehow decide to pay for their service.
No matter where you rank, I still love ya. But I just want you to know for YOUR benefit where you stand.
Yours in prosperity,
Jim Labadie

I’m not coming back

I’ve written in the past about how terrific my massage therapist is. She really is great.
But amazingly enough, I found someone even better!
And that makes for an uncomfortable situation.
How do I tell the former therapist I’m not coming back?
Well, instead of doing what many people would do and just never call her, or return her calls, I am happy to say I took the moral highground and let her know I was going in a different direction.
It was very uncomfortable to do, but she took it well. Honesty is typically very much appreciated. And in this case it was.
How does this apply to you? Here’s how:
- If you expect people to be upfront and honest with you, and that includes your clients and customers, you must be that way with others.
ESPECIALLY, with people you buy things from!
- You may very well run into a prospective client who would like to train with you instead of their current trainer.
If that is the case, one of the things you will need to discuss with them is how they plan on firing their current trainer.
Yes, if you want that person as YOUR new client you need to find that out.
Otherwise, they very well may never leave their current trainer who isn’t doing a very good job for them, but they’ve become emotionally attached to.
Hey, this isn’t about poaching business from a fellow fitness pro. It’s business.
If you, me or anyone else isn’t getting the job done…well, you can kiss that money goodbye. It’s the nature of the beast.
Anyway, I highly suggest you discuss such things during your prospecting mode. If you get the feeling this person would LIKE TO switch, but never actually would, then leave it alone.
Some will, some won’t, so what? Who’s next?!
Who loves ya?
Yours in prosperity,
Jim Labadie

PS- Discover how to sell with integrity.
‘A lot of people assume that my professional honors make it easier for me to charge higher fees than other trainers.
Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.
I’ve worked in sales most of my adult life. I’ve gone through Dale Carnegie Sales Training (twice), read literally dozens of books, listened to weeks worth of cassettes, and even studied NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), but Jim teaches unique, practical and powerfully effective techniques that I had never heard before.
I’ve just started, but I am supremely confident that the skills Jim taught me in the ‘Ultimate Sales Kit’ will finally allow me to charge rates commensurate with my experience, expertise and honors - without pain on my part asking for the money nor pain on the client’s part paying the money.
Jim helps you earn what you’re truly worth.’

Write fitness articles in three easy steps

Write fitness articles in three easy steps

How to write fitness articles in three easy steps
Writing articles is a great way to market your fitness services. Not only do they promote you to your target market, but because your article has been published you automatically are viewed as a credible expert on the topic. But many fitness professionals don’t realize just how easy it is to write short “how-to” articles, so they don’t utilize this very effective marketing tool.
Follow these three easy steps to quickly and easily write your own fitness articles:
1- Pick a topic that people are really interested in. Yes, I know that seems mighty obvious. But do you really know the subjects which your prospects want to know about? Have you asked them? Or are you writing about fitness items you think they should be interested in?
So ask your target market what they want to read about. Are they looking for information on how to reduce their blood pressure? Or would they rather learn how to get six-pack abs? Again, this is marketing. Write for your audience definitely wants. Not what you think they want.
2- Use a killer headline. If nobody reads your article what was the point in writing it? The headline is what will draw readers in so it’s imperative it really captures their attention.
If you need ideas go to your local newsstand or bookstore and stare at the magazine racks. Copywriters get paid big money to come up with headlines because they sell magazines.
3- Use the magic formula. And in case you’re wondering, you’re reading a sample of that “magic formula right now. Start with an introductory paragraph that explains the problem you are about to solve. Next you list out the simple step-by-step tips (people love tips, by the way) to follow. Then end your article with your bio and a way for the reader to receive even more FREE information from you.
Oh, and if you like, you can have a closing paragraph or sentence like this one:
Follow these three easy steps and you’ll be writing fitness articles like a pro in no time!
