The Missing Referral Link

Referrals are the lifeblood of any business.

But it is particularly true for personal trainers.

Just turning your clients into “walking, talking billboards” is not enough to create an endless stream of referrals.

It is very simple, however.

By following the FIVE simple tips below you will tap into the power of your contacts to increase your revenues with very little cost.

1) Realize that everyone you know is a potential referrer.

There is not a single person you know who cannot be educated on how to identify and send you a potential client. So make a list of every single person you can think of. And them think some more. Family members, friends, neighbors, hair stylists, networking associates, current and past clients, financial planners, doctors, lawyers…it’s endless.

2) Educate them on what a referral looks like. Let them know exactly who your perfect client is.

Is it a man or a woman? How old are they? What are their goals? What type of programs and products has your perfect client typically tried before they thought of hiring a trainer?

The more you educate the referrer about what to look for, the more potential clients they can send your way.

3) Never, ever assume.

Don’t ever assume people already know who your perfect client is. That is a recipe for disaster. While they will be more than happy to help you, the reality is people are far too busy to know everything that is going on with your business.

4) Educate referrers on where to find potential clients for you.

Remind them that it could be anybody. It could be their family, friends, neighbors, etc. And it’s also wise to list out places where these people could be found. It might be someone where they work, or someone they know from their softball team, or a parent from their child’s school.

Again, it’s endless. And the more ideas you give them about where to look for this perfect client of yours, the more likely they are to remember someone who fits the bill.

5) This tip is The Missing Referral Link. If you want to know what it is…if you want to know how powerful…how automated…

…well, if you really, really want to know The Miss Referral Link you will attend the Ultimate Referral and Retention System for Fitness Pro Webinar tomorrow afternoon.

The Not So Obvious Reason

January 30, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

When you start your personal training business, you do what you have to do.

Yes, you need a rock-solid plan.

But plans don’t always work exactly like they are supposed to.

So you do what you have to in order to exist.

And that might mean working way more than you expected.

Somewhere during that time many fitness business owners forget the reason they started.

It was supposed to afford them much more free time.

It was meant to allow the owner to do the things they have always wanted to do.

That was the reason for all that hard work. For all that sacrifice. For taking all those risks.

But now the plate keeps getting more and more full.

Even when things are good some can’t seem to stop piling work on top of work.

And some of these new opportunities are potential goldmines.

Others are just “filler”. Things to do because they’ve become so addicted to work.

I cannot say I am completely guilt-free of this charge.

But I can tell you that I am getting better at it all the time.

In fact, just recently I’ve come across a business that would not only add millyuns of bucks to my bank account over the next 10 years, but would add endless headaches as well.

And as tempting as it is, I can write with all honesty that the moment I declined this invitation in my own mind, well, the sick feeling I had in my stomach even thinking about it was gone.

My message today is a simple one.

One for you never to forget.

Your business exists to serve YOU.

You do NOT exist to serve the business.

Second Strategy For Retaining Clients

A critical focus for your personal training business is KEEPING your current clients.

Guilt-Free Conscience

January 28, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

I just got back from Barnes and Noble.

Yeah, I was checking out the magazine racks for headline ideas again.

Have you been doing that lately?

I noticed that Star Magazine was completely sold out.

There was one People left.

Why am I telling you this?

Well, should you feel guilty about growing a business that helps people and makes you rich while most everyone else can’t wait to read what Angelina, Brad and Paris are doing?

Most people have sub-conscious beliefs that muney is evil and rich people are the scum of the earth.

Why?

Because they run out and read Star and People, that’s why.

Just food for thought.

PS- Want a great way to start your morning?

“Hey Jim,

When I’m running my boot camp class I’m always thinking, ‘what a great use of my time’. It comes out to about $210 an hour. It’s a great way to start your morning!

I am planning on hiring another trainer, or doing two classes next month.

Thanks for your help, and the Ultimate Boot Camp Start-up Kit CD’s!”

Tick Tock Goes The Clock

Tick Tock Goes The Clock

Some things I hear all the time from trainers:

“I’m looking to leverage my time so I can be with my kids more.”

Tick tock goes the clock…

“I’ve got lots of clients, but I’m getting really burned out.”

Tick tock goes the clock…

“I’m SO sick and tired of some of my clients. I’d love to fire them but I need the income.”

Tick tock goes the clock…

“I know I need to do more public speaking, but I don’t know where to start.”

Tick tock goes the clock…

“I’d love to incorporate systems into my business, but I just don’t have the time.”

Tick tock goes the clock…

Wealthy people know that their most precious commodity is TIME.

You can always make more moolah.

You’ll never get that time back.

Tick tock goes the clock…

Trainers from all over the world are wondering if we have an affiliate program for it.

Sure do.

Does it pay well?

How about a 75% commission.

Even better?

So far, 50% of customers are purchasing the upsell package.

That means even bigger commissions for you.

First Strategy For Retaining Clients

January 24, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

First Strategy For Retaining Clients

I don’t know of any fitness business that doesn’t want to retain its clients.

Pretty obvious, right?

Well, since most businesses do a lousy job of it, I guess it isn’t so obvious.

One day I asked the legendary Alwyn Cosgrove his strategy for retaining clients.

His answer:

“Clients make the decision to renew in the first 30 days, regardless of how long they signed up for.

So the key is customer service in the first 30 days, and “front-
loading” the training programs so that they get GREAT results in the beginning.”

I think the most important part of his answer is “in the first 30 days, REGARDLESS of how long they signed up for.”

Now if you’ve been paying close attention you’ll remember that at the end of December I was telling you about something I was working on with Registered Dietitian Jayson Hunter.

Something SPECIFICALLY designed to help you deliver faster results AND retain your clients.

Well, that “something” is ready to go.

The http://CarbRotationDiet.com is the perfect addition to your “front-loaded” training programs.

It’s specifically designed to help your clients drop up to 15 pounds in 30 days.

Again, Jayson is a Registered Dietitian. This isn’t some BS program. This is the real deal.

The http://CarbRotationDiet.com delivers incredible up-front results through a program that is perfectly safe AND healthy.

More importantly, it delivers a TON of powerful information which results in consistent fat-loss after the first 30 days. AND it teaches how to make the lifestyle changes necessary to KEEP the pounds off.

Oh, and we’ve also created Men’s and Women’s versions of the program. It can’t get any easier for you. Check ‘em out at http://CarbRotationDiet.com

PS- Do you trust Alwyn Cosgrove’s opinion?

“Jayson Hunter is the difference between a good program and a fantastic program.

After seventeen years in the fitness and weight loss field - I have a core group of experts that I trust and respect. Jayson Hunter has become my go-to guy when it comes to nutritional counseling, weight management programming and operations. He’s the best there is”

Morons To The Right Of Me…

Morons To The Right Of Me…

“Yeah, uh, how many beers can I drink and still get rid of this gut?”

“What about light beer?”

“What about wine? I can’t give up my wine.”

Inevitably, I’d get a question like the above at a speaking engagement.

Whenever you are presenting in front of a networking group, organization or some sort of club, chances are you’re going to have a knucklehead or two in your audience.

And it’s for exactly that reason I’m going to fill you in on three little secrets to overcome the idiots.

1- Take questions at the START of your talk. Let them get their stupidity out of their system.

2- If they remain a royal pain in the you know what then let them demonstrate some exercises. Yeah, that’s right. Beat the crap out of them with a workout. That’ll shut them up.

3- Get my http://amazingfitnesspresentations.com/ and find out how to actually make BIG moolah at these presentations.

“Jim Labadie is not only a proven force in the fitness industry - he’s a proven attraction at any conference.

Not only does Jim know his stuff inside and out - he knows how to deliver it, in a no holds barred, entertaining fashion. By far, one of the most dynamic speakers on the fitness circuit”

Beware Your Friends

January 23, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

Years ago, I was picking a buddy of mine up to grab a beer and watch some football.

While I was waiting outside of his apartment I was thumbing through my copy of Napoleon Hill’s “Succeed and Grow Rich Through Persuasion”.

As my friend got in the car he picked up the book off the passenger seat so he didn’t sit on it.

And just like pretty much anyone who works for a corporation (in other words, NOT an entrepreneur) he smugly said, “I can’t believe people actually read these books.”

Now the reason I tell you to Beware Your Friends is because that would have been enough for some people to lose confidence in themselves and STOP reading books that are proven to help them succeed.

Me? For the most part, I don’t give a rat’s ass what people think.

Especially people who have someone else sign their paycheck.

Is there anything wrong with being an employee?

Hell no.

Do I concern myself with their opinions?

You know the answer to that.

Make The Most From The Least

Make The Most From The Least

Here are some simple instructions for you:

1- Take out a piece of paper and make a list of all your best ideas.

2- Cross off the ones which now, thinking back, don’t make any sense at all. The ones that really jump off the page that you know you will never get around to.

3- Take a long look at what’s left and really see if the remaining are truly worth your time.

4- Organize the remainder into a list of highest profit and lowest hassle.

5- Get to work.
