Leap Year Leap

February 29, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I don’t usually ever have a problem coming up with things to write to you, but today, for some reason, I’m a little stuck. Perhaps it’s Divine Intervention. I’ve been thinking about doing this for some time now, so I’ll do it today.

I’ve written before that I’m a very blessed person. I am grateful for all I have. I am grateful for each day I’m alive. My life really does get better each and every day. So today I want to give back.

Listed here are my three favorite charities. They are the ones I donate to on a regular basis. I’d be thrilled if you would make a donation to any one of them. I’d be just as thrilled if you decided to not donate to one of mine, but to one of yours instead.

It’s Leap Year Day today - February 29th. Let’s do something a little different on a day that is a little different.

Who loves ya? ;-)

I do.

Ab Sculpting Economy

Ab Sculpting Economy

Here is an email I received after announcing the new http://www.ultimatefitnessbusiness.com/ report yesterday:

“Hey Jim,

Do you feel that our downward economy will impact personal trainer sales for everyone or just a few and what other strategies besides your expert system would you employ?”

-Louis Gualario

Great question, Louis. Here is my response for everyone:

1- If you haven’t already, make sure you immediately download and devour every page of the http://www.ultimatefitnessbusiness.com/ report. You’d be crazy not to.

2- More than ever, NOW is the time to be creating and strengthening personal relationships with clients, community leaders, strategic partners, journalists and anyone else you can think of.

3- I’m no economist. That’s for certain. But with the mortgage crisis and the alarming rate of foreclosures in certain areas, well, things aren’t getting truckloads better right away.

When there was a recession in the early 90’s in the States I was in college, so I’m not really sure how much of a hit the fitness industry took.

Plus, the industry is a lot different now than it was. There are 24 Hour clubs. Tons of Personal Training studios. Huge chain clubs like Planet Fitness. Fitness Boot Camps. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens if things get really bad.

4- That being written, people spend moolah on the things they really want. And just because the economy is bad doesn’t mean they won’t want to look better naked. So I think people will still be looking to shed fat and fit in their “skinny jeans.” They just won’t want to spend as much to do so.

And that’s a BIG reason I really believe in fitness boot camps. People are looking for affordable ways to achieve the same result. It makes incredible financial sense to shell out 99 bucks for my http://howtoprofitwithbootcamps.com/ kit to take serious advantage of this trend.

5- Whether the economy is humming along or in the toilet, you need to marketing CONSTANTLY. In the http://www.ultimatefitnessbusiness.com/ report my friend Pat Rigsby makes specific mention of this:

“You are not in the business of personal training. You are in the business of MARKETING personal training.”

Failure to consistently market your business, regardless of the economic situation, is what leads to financial disaster.

7- The economy might not dig you, but I love ya.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

Small Changes Big Results

Small Changes Big Results

I was recently asked by a reader what I think of the book “The Four Hour Workweek”

Personally, I LOVE that book. It really gets you to think differently about life. And while it is a lot more difficult to create a business that supports a Four Hour Workweek than the book tries to get you to believe, I do think it will really open your eyes about some things.

One of the things that really hit home with me was the importance of the 80/20 rule.

80% of your revenues are going to come from 20% of your customers.

80% of your customers are going to come from 20% of your marketing efforts.

It might be even less. It could be 90/10 or 95/5.

The point is to get you to understand how important it is to be focusing on the highest return activities.

Look, business really isn’t anywhere near as hard as we like to make it out to be. It’s just not. And I could go on and on and on about the head games trainers play on themselves to keep them from making serious moolah, but I won’t - today.

No, today I just want you to realize you can increase your profits by 500% just by focusing on three little things.

And no, I’m not kidding.

Pat Rigsby, Nick Berry and I have prepared a special report for you on exactly how to do it. You’ll crank through the 15 page report in a matter of minutes. It will be one of the most eye-opening things you’ve ever read. If not THE most.

It doesn’t cost you one red-cent.

It will blow your mind.

It will make you realize just how easy it is to actually make a serious income being a trainer.

Get the report at http://www.UltimateFitnessBusiness.com

You’re going to STOP thinking like a trainer and START thinking like a business owner. And that, my friend, is going to lead you to the promised land.

Make your life easy. Read the report right now http://www.UltimateFitnessBusiness.com

Love ya more than ever.

The South Beach Workout

February 26, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

This weekend I went to the Wine and Food Festival in South Beach. More specifically, on Saturday Carol and I went to a 4 hour seminar to taste some pretty amazing wines. And I also wanted to research the industry because you won’t find a more rabid market of affluent people than wine connoisseurs.

Personally I’m not a big wine drinker. I’m a Jack Daniel’s fan. So I’ve never really understood the whole wine culture. I’d never before really grasped the obsession people have with wine. That was BEFORE this weekend.

Regardless of what your personal taste is, there is simply no denying the extraordinary passion winemakers and connoisseurs have for the libation. It really is rather inspiring hearing a man tell his story of being the 12th generation of his family to create their wine in the same great tradition as the previous eleven. They do not waver in their personal style of creating the best possible product they can. And if a vintage does not produce a wine worth selling, well, it will not be sold.

These are businesses that have stood the test of time. They are built on passion and purity. Integrity and honor. Patience and prudence. The love of their craft is what propels them to strive for perfection year after year.

Not every business started has to be sold. It is more than ok to toil and sweat and take pride in your creation for all your days, if you so choose.

I absolutely LOVE what I do. But I can only hope that my passion for this business is a fraction of what a 12th generation wine maker feels for his craft. If everyone of us felt a connection to our chosen profession as they do, well, I can only imagine what every day would hold for each of us.

Who loves ya? ;-)

These Are Really Cool

These Are Really Cool

You may have already seen these at the Ryan Lee Boot Camp. I’ve been looking at their website for the past 15 minutes just in awe of the possibilities.

You’ve got to check these things out. Whether you run camps or just train clients you can add a whole new dimension to your workouts.

Now this might be a touch confusing, so stay with me here. I’ve worked out a significant discount with the manufacturer for you. They’re affordable as is, but with the savings it’s a no-brainer for you.

1- To see the simple piece of equipment I’m raving about go here:

http://tinyurl.com/2q89vf

2- As a loyal Labadie reader if you purchase 6 sets - or more - you get a 15% discount. When you decide to order that many use this link: http://tinyurl.com/3cfxgd

3- If you decide to order 12 sets - or more - you receive a 25% discount. If that is the case then you need to use this link: http://tinyurl.com/2kqm7e

That might seem a little confusing, but it’s really not. The two special links are only if you want to purchase:

A- 6 or more

B- 12 or more

Yes, you can purchase a single set. Yes, you can purchase 2,3,4 or 5. But that doesn’t qualify for the discount.

There’s a ton of stuff you can do with these. At the very least, be sure to give them a long look.

Jim Labadie

Lessons From A 5 Year Old

February 26, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

I want you to think about little kids. Yes, little kids. And when I write little, I mean under 5 years old.

Think about one you know. Maybe it’s your kid. Maybe it’s a niece or nephew. Maybe it’s a neighbors kid. Doesn’t matter.

Now that you’ve got this little ‘angel’ in your mind’s eye I’d like you to imagine a scenario where you tell this child that he or she can’t have something. Imagine the response you get. Chances are if it’s something they are even remotely interested they are going to go nuts.

Am I wrong? Doesn’t just about every little kid go bonkers when you tell them they can’t have something? Don’t they want it about a bazillion more times than they originally did?

Well, if I’m guessing right, you too were that age at one time. And if you’ve never noticed, most adults are nothing more than big kids. Yeah, that’s right, we still want what we can’t have.

And that includes people who are interested in hiring you. Try telling a prospect up-front you don’t think they’d be a good fit for your program because they don’t seem serious enough.

Think they’d tell you to go straight to h*ll?

Far from it. Remember, they’re nothing more than a 3 year old kid in a 40 year old body. They’ll start to fight to become your client. They’ll plead their case. They’ll do whatever it takes to convince YOU they deserve to be YOUR client. This is what I call the ‘Velvet Rope’. It works like magic.

Far cry from the usual crap you’ve been taught about sales, huh?

And in case you doubt this works, this is from one of my customers:

‘Due to the fact that our training business is within a gym that gives every new member a ‘free’ session with a trainer and nutritional coach, we do not have as much control gaining the interest of prospects who truly want to be here to purchase what we have to offer. In the past, this had the potential of creating a negative thought process with my staff. It was common for them to go into an introductory session with the assumption that the prospect would not buy, thus a waste of time.

However, since we have begun to implement the techniques laid out in the Velvet Rope…the pressure to sell is gone and the power to tell a prospect that they do not ‘qualify’ is amazing. Prospects actually walk away from an ‘intro’ wondering why they do not fit the bill. How amazing it is to hear a prospect try to convince YOU why they are the right fit for our particular program rather than the other way around. I’ve had prospects become so excited and determined to become a part of our team, that they cannot get to their wallets fast enough!

Thanks so much for sharing these tried and true methods in a way that makes perfect sense. I’ve learned so much from you!

Thanks, Jim!’

Anyway, the next time a prospect is giving you a hard time, change your mindset. It sounds a bit strange, but you’re better off treating them like a three year old instead of an adult!

PS - Watch them LITERALLY sell themselves:

“Jim,

I just want say THANK YOU!!! Your sales program is simply the BEST! It’s allowed me to systematize everything from the first contact with a prospect to signing them on as a client. The best part is that it’s not at all complicated. I just listen as my prospects actually ’sell’ themselves - Talk about no-pressure sales!”

Joe Stankowski
Wilmington, DE

“P.S. You’re right — you ARE insane for selling your program at such a low price!!! It paid for itself many times over in just the first week.”

You Will Not Believe This

February 21, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

You’re never going to believe this.

If I didn’t know the person I would have a hard time believing this is true.

But sadly, it is.

It’s the perfect example of people buying things they want much more than things they need.

One of my clients was telling me today about a mutual friend’s hernia.

It’s going to require surgery.

Unfortunately, and for whatever reason, this self-employed business man doesn’t have health insurance.

This, and the fact that he claims he doesn’t have the money for the operation, are the reasons he uses to explain why he has not gone ahead and had the surgery.

Ok. So that’s not terribly unusual.

But here’s the catch:

This same man just went out and purchased 2 brand new motor scooters for $4,000.

I’m not a surgeon.

I’ve got no clue as to how much a hernia operation costs.

But I’ve got to imagine that $4,000 would have at least been a good start.

Amazing, isn’t it?

Amazing that someone would put aside even their health so they could buy something they want much more than spend the money on something they need.

But in reality, this happens all the time. Day in and day out.

Let’s face it, just about everyone could really use the help of a qualified fitness professional.

Yet how do you think you will convince someone of that when you know there are people in this world with hernias who are riding motor scooters?

You can’t. People buy what they want, not what they need.

So what does this mean to you?

Well, ask yourself how much time you’ve wasted in the past trying to convince someone of the value of personal training.

I know I used to.

You really can’t so don’t bother.

Instead you need to use your time much more wisely by eliminating prospects who would never spend the money on your services.

And you’d better be able to close the people that do want to hire a personal trainer.

Look at it this way, do you really think in this incredibly busy, highly over-connected world we live in a person would actually take the time to sit down and discuss hiring you if they weren’t super serious about it?

If you set a sales appointment with a prospect then you’ve pretty much already got a new client. Here’s 5 tips to help you out:

1-Before you even set the appointment make sure they are a qualified prospect.

2-Let them talk the vast majority of the time about why they would hire a personal trainer. Find out their reasons. Sorry, they don’t care about yours.

3-Talk about money at the end.

4-Sales is nothing more than a conversation.

5-Remember, if they took the time to meet with you, 99% of the time they’ve already made the decision to hire you. Get out of your own way and let them tell you why.

730 Steps Per Year

February 21, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

I’m writing you this email under the assumption you have dreams.

Really BIG dreams.

If you don’t have any, well, I really cannot help you.

But if you do, please pay very close attention.

What would happen if each and every day you made two significant steps in the direction of those dreams?

Just two.

Over the course of one year you would be 730 steps closer to them.

Again, I’m talking about BIG dreams. The kind that don’t happen - as much as we would like them to - overnight.

In just two years you would be 1460 steps closer.

Now I have no idea how many steps it is going to take to get you there. I just want you to see from my simple math how much easier it is than most think.

And I’ll let you in on a little secret: When YOU start moving in the direction of your dreams THEY start taking steps towards YOU.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Big Day Today

Big Day Today

*Be sure to read this entire email to discover how you can get two of my best fitness business products for nuttin’.

I’m a BIG believer in public speaking. There are so many things it can do for your business. But speaking to personal trainers can be pretty darn interesting when the subject is anything other than exercise or nutrition. The average trainer just doesn’t “get” a guy like me. They’re usually one of two kinds:

1- They just don’t care about making moolah

2- They don’t have a clue about the subject but they think they know everything

Needless to say I don’t present at the “standard” personal training industry events. For the most part, it’s just not worth my time. I’ve got better things to do than give away all my best information for nothing to a bunch of meatheads and get essentially zilch in return. I’ve done some in the past and they were, for the most part, a complete waste of time.

But the Perform Better events are really good. And the Ryan Lee Boot Camps were out-of-this-world. There are seminars out there that are more than worth your time and mine.

And that leads me to some really, really good news. Today is a BIG day for the personal training industry because there is a NEW event that is going to take you and your training business to a whole other level.

http://fitcommexpo.com/ has over 100 sessions presented by the best-of-the-best. You don’t have to travel. It’s all virtual. And you can’t beat the price. Seriously.

Besides me, here are just a few of the other presenters:

Pat Rigsby and Nick Berry
Alywn Cosgrove
Mike Boyle
Dr. Chris Mohr
Amanda Vogel
Jayson Hunter
Susan Hill
Brian Grasso
Steve Cotter
Jason Ferrugia
John Berardi
Victoria Johnson
Diane Vives
Dr. Evan Osar
Nicki Anderson
Lee Taft
Stephen Holt
And a whole lot more…

Look, I could go on and on and on about this one. But it’s really simple. To my knowledge, there simply is no other way to get so much incredibly valuable info for so little.

You need to be all over http://fitcommexpo.com/ This is as good as it gets.

And here’s the best part. When you sign up for http://fitcommexpo.com/ through this newsletter you will receive two of my killer products as a bonus.
