Point blank:
If you rely on one source of income you’re potentially screwed.
Do you have any idea how many trainers I hear from who tell me they get ‘killed’ in August when their affluent clients leave on extended vacations and don’t come in for training.
Yet again, that is why I am a firm believe in Boot Camps.
By training groups you can make much more in less time.
You then use that extra time to create multiple streams of income.
- Work on building your autoship supplement sales into your business
- Create a SYSTEM for selling your info products
- You could start a Send Out Cards business on the side
- Make a program for traveling clients so when they leave for vacation you continue to service them and make moolah
You also use that extra time to learn everything you can about business, sales, marketing, publicity…
I’ll say it till the cows come home:
THINK like a business owner NOT a personal trainer.

Some people love them. Some people hate them.
But one thing is for certain:
Reality TV shows ain’t going anywhere soon.
In fact, I just saw a segment on the Today Show about a seminar which helps Reality TV Wanabees learn what producers of the shows are looking for in cast members.
How does this relate to you. Read more

SMACK.Sometimes I’ll do something for so long that just doesn’t make sense.
And I’ll smack myself in the head after I’ve corrected it.
SMACK.
You’re not the only one who self-sabotages.
There are times we have something extraordinarily valuable staring us in the face and don’t even know it.
It might be an opportunity to save time.
It might be a chance to learn something profound that will change our business - and us - forever.
It might be even be a circumstance where you get to ask someone a question that you KNOW if answered, your life would be so much easier.
Hmmmm. Watcha think about that.
I get a lot of people who email me and want the chance to pick my brain.
Well, did you know you CAN pick my brain if you are a member of http://PersonalTrainerU.com
And Pat Rigsby’s brain.
And Nick Berry’s brain.
And hundreds of other successful personal trainers.
It costs a freakin’ dollar to pick our brains for 30 days.
SMACK.

The Fastest Way to Becoming a Local Fitness Celebrity

The Fastest Way to Becoming a Local Fitness Celebrity
Many personal trainers have heard a great way to grow their business is by becoming a local fitness celebrity. But many don’t have any idea how to do it. Fortunately, with some effort, it’s very easy to accomplish. In fact, there are two things any trainer can be doing right now to catapult from unknown to “the” fitness expert in their area almost overnight.
Public Speaking
Nothing builds credibility like public speaking. Nothing. As soon as the speaker stands in front of their audience they are recognized as an instant expert. It’s an interesting phenomenon, but people automatically assume since the person is addressing an entire group they must be a credible source of information. Additionally, most people’s greatest fear is public speaking, so anyone who is able to actually do it is treated with respect and treated as an authority instantly.
Personal trainers who have a fear of speaking to groups can easily overcome it by becoming a member of Toast Masters International. It is an organization with a proud history of helping people overcome their fear of public speaking and improving their skills greatly. For information on them you can research www.ToastMasters.org
Finding speaking engagements is relatively easy; many civic clubs, networking groups and local associations have weekly meeting which feature a new presenter each time. Fitness professionals actively seeking places to speak can search the Internet for organizations in their area and contact them directly. Most are more than happy to have a presentation on weight loss and well-being.
Writing
After public speaking there is no faster way to be recognized as an expert in your field than publishing content. And unlike the days before the Internet, it couldn’t be easier than it is today.
Simple “how-to” articles can be easily written and published all over the Internet and beyond. These articles are typically 500 words in length and can be used in any number of ways. They can be posted as “deep content pages” of a website to drive search engine traffic. Articles can be submitted to article directory sites, such as www.EzineArticles.com , to be distributed all over the Web by Internet publishers who need content for their websites and blogs.
And of course, blogging has taken the Internet a step further and made it even easier for a trainer to demonstrate their expertise. Blogs are “loved” by the major search engines (think Google) and can be started with free software such as www.Blogger.com However, it is typically best to use a blogging program that incorporates WordPress technology, such as www.Thei360blog.com
At the same time, trainers should not forget about the “offline” world when it comes to writing. They can easily use the same articles they have written for the Internet and print copies to be distributed at places such as physician or chiropractic offices, or wherever their target market frequents, for that matter. Of course, all articles need to include a bio at the end and a strong call-to-action so the reader knows how to take action next.
Becoming a local fitness celebrity is not complicated. It merely takes effort. Any personal trainer who decides to become a prolific writer and speaker will be handsomely rewarded for it.

The Ultimate Reason Why
September 1, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment
This may be the most important newsletter I’ve ever written, so please be sure to read all of it.
There’s a company I know that has grown to become very successful for one reason beyond all others:
They had a big enough “why.”
Their leader was told for years that what he wanted to accomplish just couldn’t be done.
Time after time he was turned away by programmers who told him the software he needed created to make his dream a reality just couldn’t be written.
But this man had a big enough “why.”
And he never quit on his dream because of it.
You see, this man was inspired by the death of his own brother to create a company that helped people show appreciation for one another.
He had missed the chance to tell his brother he loved him, and he vowed to build a business that would prevent others from doing the same.
When everyone was telling him it couldn’t be done he would only need think back to his reason “why.”
He had made a promise to his brother and it would NOT be broken. Read more
Ultimate personal training hobby
August 29, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment
I’m actually writing this to you on Saturday, August 23rd. There’s a couple reasons why:
1- I’m going to Vegas this week to Mastermind with some of the world’s most talented fitness internet marketers.
2- The other is, I love it.
I treat my businesses like businesses. But a lot of the time this is like one big hobby.
I love to “work.”
I love to learn about business and marketing.
But if YOU don’t…if you DREAD this stuff…
Well, you might rethink what you’re doing.
This stuff needs to become a part of the fabric of who you are.
If you can’t stand the thought of even opening a book on marketing you ought to stay an employee.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Life is too short not to do things you love the vast majority of the time.
Yes, there will always be times when you have stuff you MUST do that you just don’t feel like doing.
But business building should be fun.
It should be exciting.
You should be passionate about it.
Just some food for thought.
Who loves ya?
Yours in prosperity,
PS - Trainers who LOVE this stuff are making it happen on http://personaltraineru.com/ - it’s the Ultimate support community for any fitness pro who loves business.
Typical health club trainer
August 28, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment
This isn’t the case everywhere, but a lot of places.
It’s pretty easy to be the dominant trainer in your club because the typical club trainer is:
- More interested in the opposite sex members of the club than their clients.
- More interested in complaining to their clients than actually training them.
- Completely unwilling to learn anything about sales or marketing - never mind actually put those skills to use.
So if you’re “cutting your teeth” in a club gaining valuable experience before starting your own thing, then follow this advice: Read more
