Be yourself and succeed as a personal trainer

September 18, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

This weekend is the Ryan Lee Boot Camp.

I’ll be there. Hope you will, too.

In 2005 I spoke there and told audience members what was probably the most important thing you can ever learn about self-promotion.

It’s not rocket-science. I’m pretty confident you’ve heard this before.

It’s better to be hated for who you are than be loved for who you’re not.

I make a damn good living at being myself in these emails.

When you meet me in person I’m the same guy. Read more

The Ultimate Reason Why

September 1, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

This may be the most important newsletter I’ve ever written, so please be sure to read all of it.

There’s a company I know that has grown to become very successful for one reason beyond all others:

They had a big enough “why.”

Their leader was told for years that what he wanted to accomplish just couldn’t be done.

Time after time he was turned away by programmers who told him the software he needed created to make his dream a reality just couldn’t be written.

But this man had a big enough “why.”

And he never quit on his dream because of it.

You see, this man was inspired by the death of his own brother to create a company that helped people show appreciation for one another.

He had missed the chance to tell his brother he loved him, and he vowed to build a business that would prevent others from doing the same.

When everyone was telling him it couldn’t be done he would only need think back to his reason “why.”

He had made a promise to his brother and it would NOT be broken. Read more

Invisible fitness powers

September 1, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

Something I haven’t talked about recently is the power that comes for surrounding yourself with the right people.

And “people” includes your clients, you know.

I cannot begin to tell you the number of trainers I’ve heard from who use my Velvet Rope approach to eliminate headache clients.

Last week I wrote you about how perfectionism will kill your business quick.

Well, being surrounded with negative clients, friends and family all day is another deadly weapon to avoid all costs.

When you’re a good marketer and you have a steady stream of prospects coming in it’s pretty easy to turn away people you KNOW would make lousy clients.

And when you surround yourself with others personal trainers who are super positive and dedicated to helping you grow, well, it’s a lot easier to deal with friends and family telling you to give up and get a job.

Something you need to understand

July 21, 2008 by jim · Leave a Comment

When you give a free presentation to a networking group, civic organization or club, the people who come up to you immediately afterwards are the ones who want MORE free info.

They’ll practically “rush the stage” to get at you ahead of everyone else.

The ones who want to hire you are the ones who will patiently wait behind that crowd a little while until you are done talking to the moochers.

Unfortunately, if you handle your talk the wrong way there will be so many moochers the people who want to hire you are likely to leave.

They can’t wait around for ever, so make sure you know how to handle things the right way.

Like night and day

You hear it over and over again:

“Just one little thing can turn your world upside down.”

In this case, I mean upside down in a good way.

But it really is true. And it really is plain and simple.

One idea can take you from barely scraping by, to making moolah hand over fist.

But some people seem determined to reinvent the wheel.

Dustin Maher is NOT one of those people.

Dustin Maher is one of my http://HowToProfitWithBootCamps.com customers who is taking the world by storm.

The proof is in the pudding:

“Jim,

I just wanted to thank you for giving me the confidence and the tools to run outdoor bootcamps.

I purchased your Boot Camp Marketing program late spring and set a launch date of 6 weeks from the time I received it.

I decided to go big and open up 4 different camps for my first crack at bootcamps. I hired another trainer to do one of them and I did the other three. I decided to run my bootcamps in six week sessions and I am coming upon my final week of the first session.

The response has been amazing!

I have 40 paid members and they are all enjoying it greatly! I am opening up two more locations for my next session of boot camps that will start in just over a week.

My goal is to have 70 paid members for this coming session.

The tools that are in your program allowed me to get such a great turnout and helped me become the boot camp leader in Madison, Wisconsin!

It is great knowing I am helping so many people out and making about $140 an hour doing so!

I would highly recommend your program to people who are looking to change more lives and make more money doing it!”

Sincerely,
Dustin Maher

JL: Awesome job, Dustin. Hopefully this is just the wake-up call other fitness pros who were sitting on the fence needed.

To quote The Shawshank Redemption:

“Get busy living, or get busy dying.”

Make it happen.
